Your laptop should be fully powered down now. Slide and hold the battery release latches to remove the battery. Some laptops have one battery release latch but most have two. To remove a laptop’s battery, turn the laptop over and look for the battery release latches. For a laptop computer you need to unplug the power cord from the wall plug and you also have to have remove its battery momentarily. When a computer unexpectedly loses power, the sudden shutdown can damage the hard disk but sometimes pulling the plug is the only way to force a frozen computer to shut down.įor a desktop computer, you simply need to unplug the power cord from the wall plug, then plug it back in and turn on the computer. You will lose any unsaved work that you had opened. If the previous steps didn’t work, the very last resort is to unplug the computer from the wall plug. To shut down when the computer is not responding, hold the power button in for about 10 to 15 seconds and the computer should power down. A forced shutdown is where you literally force your computer to shut off. If Task Manager isn’t working and you have no other way of closing the frozen computer programs then you should attempt a “forced shutdown” of the computer.
